IHACC Team Updates

IHACC & the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

Durban, South Africa

IHACC Team members Sherilee Harper, Lea Berrang Ford, and Mark New visited Durban in January for the first lead author meeting of the IPCC Working Group II Sixth Assessment Report.

Cali, Columbia

IHACC Team member Shuiab Lwasa travelled to Cali from February 11-16th for a Lead Author meeting on the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Dr. Lwasa also attended the first Lead Author meeting of the IPCC Working Group III Sixth Assessment Report from April 1-5th in Edinburgh.

Kazan, Russia

IHACC Team member Sherilee Harper travelled to Kazan in March for meetings to further develop the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate. Sheri is a lead author on the report.

IHACC Team Member Mark New Named one of 100 Most Influential People in Climate Policy in 2019!

IHACC Team member Mark New was recently listed among the 100 most influential people in climate policy globally by Apolitical - a peer-to-peer learning platform for governments.

IHACC MSc Student Attending EcoHealth Course in Canada!

Rosa Mercedes Silvera, from Cayetano Heredia University, is at the University of Northern British Columbia this May for the CoPEH Canada EcoHealth course! Rosa is supported by a scholarship from the Peruvian National Fund for Science, Technology and Technological Innovation (FOND-CYT).

New IHACC Students & Summer Student Exchanges

Katy Davis

Katy is a new PhD student with the IHACC Program, and has been selected to work with the Arctic team on a project examining climate change, trail access, and health impacts in an Inuit context.

Katy is based at the University of Leeds and is co-supervised by James Ford and Sherilee Harper.  

Andrea Valdivia Gago

Andrea is an undergraduate student in nutrition at Cayetano Heredia University in Peru. Andrea is visiting the University of Alberta this summer to work on a project examining nutrition and seasonal changes in nutritional status in Shawi communities.

Andrea is co-supervised by Carol Zavaleta and Sherilee Harper.

Tiana Bressan

Tiana is an undergraduate student in the biomedical engineering program at the University of Guelph, and a 2018 President’s Scholar. Tiana’s scholarship is supporting her travel to Lima, where she will work with the Peruvian IHACC Team at Cayetano Heredia University.

Tiana is co-supervised by Carol Zavaleta and Sherilee Harper.

Alexandra Nunns

Alexandra is an undergraduate student in the sustainability and environmental management program at the University of Leeds. Alexandra will be visiting Edmonton this summer through the University of Alberta Research Experience Program.

Alexandra will complete a summer project under supervision of the team at UofA and Leeds.
